Sweet Dreams, TN – The Last Shadow Puppets

A bowl of popcorn

A large group of high schoolers are dispersed around the bottom floor of a non-supervised house on Main Street. Art supplies are scattered on top of every possible flat surface with the tv blaring Spotify’s “Sweet Soul Chillout” playlist. A group of girls sit around a dinning room table viscously tearing apart a movie they watched last Saturday evening; while a group of similar size but of different gender stand around a large blank sheet of paper covering the once beautiful white tile. One of the boys dips his big toe into a bowl of paint and starts to create with it.

At the other side of the room, a boy in a red sweatshirt cuts off a chunk of a girl’s hair, only to place in upon a paper filled with an ungodly amount of paint. The red sweatshirt boy leans the painting against one of the walls amount many others.

The only thing in common between a cat, a dead man, yeezys, and a detailed fingernail are the fact that they are all drying, supported by a wall.

A bowl of popcorn and a plate of cookies that might make you feel different sit on top of a freshly wiped counter. Some of these high schoolers are creating beautiful pieces of art, whilst others are trying desperately to impress the others who created the art leaning on the wall.

Suddenly, the door to the household opens with, according to the enterer, the loudest sound in the history of the universe, but the rest of the party-goers don’t even notice it. The enterer is a boy with black hair to cover the forehead that he is self-conscious about. Walking into where most of the students are gathered, the boy feels automatically overwhelmed and heads over to the food set up.

A boy unknowingly dips his pale hands into the bowl of popcorn and eats just a small amount before he gets a popcorn kernel stuck inside of his tooth. Giving up on eating, he then wonders over to a lounge chair that is in the corner overlooking the living room. Paper and crayons are scattered all over the floor beneath him; although the boy has never taken much of a stab at art, he picks up the different colors and starts to draw.

The boy just created the most beautiful drawing that any one currently existing inside that house has ever seen. The boy’s mind is fixed on creating the moment that he was in, drawing each human in that room without a head, replaced by the animal head that he saw best fit.

About an hour later, the boy is starting to attract a crowd, but he is completely unaware of the sounds of human discussion around him. People are amazed with the boy’s work when he finishes, giving him the most attention and praise that he has ever received in his life. He basks in it for a while, before it becomes too overwhelming and he heads back out the noisy door as quickly as he snuck in.

.

The boy later finds out that the popcorn that he had previously ingested had been infused with cannabis. He is absolutely devastated, now consumed with thoughts juxtaposed with the fact that he must only have been able to create such a work of art because he was under the influence. He never touches art again.

What the boy sadly still does not know that the amount of popcorn that he ate was not enough to actually influence his mind in creating in any way; he was able to produce such inventive art all on his own.
